The point at which Latinos would outnumber white residents to make up the biggest share of the Texas population has been on the state’s demographic horizon for years. It seemed that long-awaited milestone was reached in 2021 when a closely watched data release last year was the first to reflect the culmination of decades of transformative growth.
Center for Women Entrepreneurs announces Texas Rural Woman Grant awardees
The Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership’s Center for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE) at Texas Woman’s University has selected 35 woman-owned businesses to receive $10,000 awards through its Texas Rural Woman Grant program. The program supports economic development activity in rural Texas by enabling rural, woman-owned small businesses to undertake new and innovative projects.

Opinion: In tax relief, with each winner there’s a loser (Paul Sadler)
When it comes to taxes, two adages come to mind: While words matter, the truth is found in the details; and tax policy is really, at the end of the process, about picking winners and losers. Let’s take the second first. The governor’s office released a statement following the Senate announcement of a new plan involving the state surplus. In essence, Gov. Greg Abbott wants to put the state on “a path to eliminating local property taxes for maintenance and operations (M&O) revenue for local schools.”
