As the education debate heats up in Austin, it i important to hear from the folks in our rural communities who are on the front lines. This interview hits on several key topics and I hope you will listen.
Earlier this Fall I interviewed Michael Lee, who is the Superintendent of Booker ISD in the Texas Panhandle. Michael is a former advocate for small schools in Austin, so a lot of our conversation focuses on the landscape around public school vouchers and other issues that negatively impact rural communities, such as taxpayer-funded lobbying. We also talk about the teacher shortage, which is possibly the biggest crisis facing rural school districts. Lee is an expert in public education and he understands the needs of small schools. He is an excellent Superintendent, Booker ISD was recently named a Blue Ribbon School for 2024.
